sleep

lusting
for fall temperatures
and family times
tripping from town
to pursue
a dream
twenty four hours
with a
grand
child.

autumn begins

the gentle breeze
in the oaks, sweet gums
and crepe myrtles
shakes leaves and
blossoms loose
blowing them to the ground
as humans and dogs are
able
once again
to hang out
outside
with the cardinals, doves
and the greater finch!

deer

two
tawny
fawns walking
side by side
spots in lines from head to
undeveloped flag
beautiful moments.

post birthday day

why is the day after
not as important as the day?
why do we move on and forget
to
call our loved ones?
Or, maybe, telling them on that
day is important.
We remember each other.
Fondly, with cards and gifts and with
hugs and hopefully, with good thoughts
as we circle back to our own selves.
maybe, every once in a year may be
too much to expect even more?

oh my gosh!

today, we played
not in the sand
not in the mountains
or indoors or outdoors
or anywhere physical
or mineral
we played god(s)
and
believe
hope
wait
to see if it works!

old pains

revisited
by wandering through a long ago
neighborhood
differences
and abundant similarities
still rental properties galore
majestic oaks towering above
human built dwellings laughing

and I found an old friend
my neighbor who loved me when
I was so down
I was out.

My heart was warm as I thought of her
many kindnesses to me.

Some things are free.

my dog

one of those people

yes, I am.
It has been hard to admit considering
my farm background
where animals could not be pets because
they were food or sold for others' food or
to keep the winter's chill away from the
floor by buying coal
and yet here I am
a century later
in admiration
to proclaim
I have a dog and
she has me and it is a wondrous thing.

Tonight, I was juggling several dishes for dinner and
forgot one of them
she was at the ready immediately
putting her nose to the stove
even
even
before I smelled anything.

I wonder if we made ourselves more like the animals
wer are and paid more attention
to them if they would show us
how to save our planet,
find a cure for heart disease and AIDS
and be advised when weather becomes
unpredictable and how and when to
take shelter.

Are we dumb or what?

resetting goals for a new blog

Having kept to my original goal of blogging for a year; now, I would like to
emphasize special topics in "brite spot".

Those of us who are owned by a dog are walking among the angels.

When a family member pulls away and does not give a hug;
my dog will.

My dog does not care how I saw something. She is usually attuned to my
"tone" and my attitude.

Wherever I go, whether I take her or not, she's waiting for me to return.

She is a true and loyal family member.

I love you Sue.
